I was quite reluctant to post about this topic, so I have been holding it off for a while until I could put the right words together. However, it was only while writing when I realised; I’m not always going to say the right thing, or write the perfect post, and that’s the beauty of the journey, you learn as you go along.
We only have this one life, so why is everyone acting like we get a second chance? We’re all heading to the same destination, so why not make your journey original and worth the while? Do something that you can be proud of, no matter how small. I have never been afraid of dying, my fear has always been that I’d die before accomplishing all my dreams, goals and aspirations.
“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dreams.” – Les Brown
This quote has always stuck with me and has been my driving force behind chasing my dreams and goals. I have spoken a lot on my blog about all the dreams and goals I have, but today I wanted to share with everyone why I love the journey towards my goals more so than the actual accomplishments of my goals.
It’s within my journey where I discover a new aspect of myself, I teach myself something new, I learn something new from others, I challenge myself, I push past boundaries, I cry, I get pretty close to quitting, yet I still rise up. It’s within my journey where I begin to mould into the person needed in order to achieve greatness.
We hear of all these successful individuals who have made a name for themselves, but we never really know how they got to that point. Which is exactly why I have chosen to document my journey, as I believe it’s the steps you take that’s most important. Your journey is about showing others how you got to the top. I want to show the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s within your journey where you should celebrate the small accomplishments and share them with the world. You never know how by doing this, you can assist others who are on a similar journey to yourself.
I legit get excited when I know I am about to step outside my comfort zone and explore other options, I can’t express enough how exhilarating your journey can be if you just embrace it and stop fighting it. I fail and fall down just about every week, but instead of giving up, I say to myself; “Okay, what can you learn from this? What should you do differently next time around?” I feed off of my failures and turn them into learning blocks.
My challenge to everyone today is to stop looking at where you want to be and start looking at where you are currently. Where you are now, is exactly where you need to be. Stop looking for a quick way to the top, start looking for ways to prolong your journey so that you’ll be confident and ready for your new-found position.
