Instead of my usual motivational blog post, I thought I’d do something a little different today. I’ve received a few emails recently from brands and readers asking me what it is that I do. So, in light of these recent emails I thought I’d write up a fun blog post giving you all a little insight into my life, as well as answering a few of your questions. So lets converse – Pun intended (currently living in my converse sneakers)
I recently turned 27 on the 5th of May, so I’m still getting the hang of being one year older. Patiently waiting for my wisdom to kick in.
After High School, I studied Marketing at Varsity Collage. Sadly, I was forced to abandon my studies after only one year and find myself a job in the real world. At that point in my life I had no idea of where or who I wanted to be. My Aunt at the time was working for a recruitment agency and managed to get me a job at a tourism company as an admin assistant. Not the glamorous life I had envisioned for myself.
8 years later, still working in the tourism industry, however now for a different company. Job title now being an IT / Support administrator. 4 years into my tourism career I realized I was unhappy and only sticking it out to pay the bills. My true passion has always been writing, so it was then when I decided to go ahead and pursue a career in my true calling.
In the past 2 years, I have completed my studies in Creative Writing and Copy Writing. These 2 courses I did through Get Smarter & UCT. I now do freelance copy writing after hours as well as manage my personal blog. Being a freelancer is extremely difficult as you need to be disciplined with yourself. The last thing I want to do after a long day of sorting through IT issues is to come home and write for other people. BUT I do it because it’s my passion, and I have always said when you have a passion, it means doing something whether you want to or not.
I love my job, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t see myself doing IT for the rest of my life. I absolutely love the fact that I have been privileged enough to obtain all this knowledge through the amazing company I work for. And with saying that I know when I do make the switch someday soon to Copy Writing, all these skills won’t go to waste. I am an entrepreneur, and because I am, I sacrifice sleep to do my freelancing jobs, all in order to build up an impressive CV. I work 16 hours a day, just so that one day I won’t have to work 8.
My blog as I have said in previous blog posts is a platform for my voice and the voices of many other woman who want to make a difference. This is where I share my advice, raw opinion, motivate, stimulate and encourage others to be true to themselves. Also, a place where I get to share my other love, fashion. I have a “can’t stop won’t stop” attitude. I am out here trying to make a difference one step at a time.
A few fun facts about me:
- I am a Christian. I attend an amazing church – Hillsong and thank God, every day for my blessings and closed doors.
- I have 3 older brothers who drive me crazy at times, but I will cross the ocean for them. I Love them too bits.
