I had this app on my phone that would alert me when someone had unfollowed me on Instagram. I would always feel so defeated when I got a notification that I had lost 5 followers. A week later, another 5 followers lost and so on it would go. I would spend unnecessary time trying to figure out why and worse, question my social media presence. Losing followers would make me feel discouraged and resulted in me wanting to give up on my blog altogether. It’s funny how something so insignificant can have such a huge impact on your self-worth.
I was spending so much time focusing on the followers I’d lost that I had started to neglect the followers I still had. Thankfully I had a breakthrough, and realized I no longer wanted to focus on the ones that left me, I rather wanted to focus on the ones that stayed. If they left you, they left for a reason, let them go. The followers that stay are the ones I am writing for, posting for and in essence the ones that help make my blog what it is today. It was then that I made the decision to delete the app. I don’t want to know who left, that’s not important to me, I want to know who stays, those are the ones I want with me along my journey.
You’re never going to please everyone, and that’s perfectly fine. What others might find cool others might find boring. Some of us are too focused on the people that leave our lives that we end up forgetting the ones who stay. Loyalty is a very important thing for me, and agreed it works both ways. The loudest people are not always the most loyal. It’s the people who stand silently by your side in your times of need, and as well in your times of triumph. Most days I don’t want a lot of noise in my life, I just need to know that I have “my people” by my side supporting me and cheering me one, even if it’s from a distance.
Life gets busy and your friends and family have their own things going on, we can’t always be on-top of things. Don’t beat yourself up for that. As long as those important to you know that when they are needed you have full confidence to call upon them. And vice versa. Delete the App from your life.
I wanted to extend my gratitude to those who have supported me along my journey. It truly means the world to me knowing I have an amazing support team cheering me on every step of the way.
